Gough
Island
Gough Island, part of the United Kingdom Overseas Territory of St Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha, is located in the central South Atlantic Ocean. It is a remote, rugged and lonesome place, about 2 700 km southwest of Cape Town. It is the southernmost of the four main islands – Tristan da Cunha, Nightingale, Inaccessible and Gough – that constitute the Tristan Archipelago. Gough and Inaccessible Island comprise a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Gough Island is one of the largest cool-temperate oceanic islands globally (although it still only measures approximately 13 km in length and 5 km across at its widest points), and is one of the most important islands in the world for seabirds.
